Where the data comes from
Roughneck reads what state oil and gas regulators publish: operators, wells, permits, transfers and the contact details printed on those filings. Every record in the app links back to the filing it came from and shows the date we read it. Today that record comes from:
- Oklahoma · Oklahoma Corporation Commission
- Texas · Railroad Commission of Texas
- Louisiana · Louisiana Department of Energy and Natural Resources
- New Mexico · New Mexico Oil Conservation Division
- Utah · Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining
- Colorado · Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission
- Pennsylvania · Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
- North Dakota · North Dakota Industrial Commission, Department of Mineral Resources
- Alaska · Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission
- Montana · Montana Board of Oil and Gas Conservation
- Wyoming · Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission
- West Virginia · West Virginia Office of Oil and Gas
- Arkansas · Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission
- Ohio · ODNR
- Kansas · KGS
Not endorsed by any state
Neither Roughneck nor the information as it is presented here or in the app is endorsed by the State of Texas, any other state, or any state agency. Texas records come from the Railroad Commission of Texas. Agency names are used only to say where a record came from. We do not use any agency's seal, logo or written material.
As published, and only as current as the filing
The public record is shown as the state published it. States publish late, correct their own records, and sometimes publish mistakes; a phone number on a filing may no longer reach anyone. We do not warrant that any record is complete, accurate or current. Where a record is old the app says so.
Anything Roughneck works out for itself, such as a ranking, a read on an account or a suggested opener, is our estimate and is labeled as ours. It is not the state's record and it is not a promise of work.
Not advice
Nothing on this site or in the app is legal, tax, financial, investment, engineering or safety advice. The gift log is a record of what you enter, not advice about what you may lawfully give anyone.
Your calls and messages
You decide who to contact and how. You are responsible for following the telephone, texting and email rules that apply where you call, including do-not-call requests and anyone who asks you to stop.
Examples on this site
Company names such as Example Operating LLC, and the figures shown with them in pictures of the app, are illustrations. They are not real companies, customers or results.
